The default setup for X was to use user postings and interactions to train the AI chatbot Grok.
The social networking site X, which is owned by Elon Musk, has previously stated in its privacy statement that it would train its artificial intelligence chatbot Grok by using the posts and interactions of its members.
In September 2023, the company amended its privacy policy, which states that “we may use publicly available information and information we collect to help train our machine learning or artificial intelligence models for the purposes outlined in this policy.”
It is significant to remember that users were initially given access to this as a default setting.
“Allow your posts as well as your interactions, inputs, and results with Grok to be used for training and fine-tuning,” according to the option wording.
The Verge claims that if this configuration bothers you, there is a method to change it, so don’t worry.
You can discover the option through the three dots menu, under “Settings and privacy,” “Privacy and safety,” and finally “Grok.” You can also access it online.
You can choose not to share data about your interactions with xAI and to allow “your posts as well as your interactions, inputs, and results with Grok to be used for training and fine-tuning purposes” by unchecking a box in the menu.
Having a private account is an additional way to opt out, as it “prevents your posts from being used to train Grok’s underlying model or to generate responses to user queries.”
In a message on Friday, X’s @Safety account stated that the setting, which is presently accessible to all web users, “will soon be rolled out on mobile.”
